The
Dovecot Studio in Edinburgh is currently hosting an exhibition of work by celebrated textile designer, Bernat Klein CBE (1922-2014). The Exhibition is a retrospective of Klein's paintings and his experimental tapestries that were created with Dovecot Studios in the 1970s. As I was in Glasgow for the In The Loop Conference, I took the opportunity to hop on a train to Edinburgh to visit the Dovecot Gallery.
Fabrics designed by Bernat Klein were used in collections by Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Saint Laurent and Dior. He also designed beautiful knitting yarns that I have seen featured in old copies of Vogue Knitting. His eye for colour is evident in all of the work on show. There are some examples of the beautiful fabrics he designed and some of the knitting yarn is displayed in his trademark circular box.

The Bernat Klein Exhibition is complemented by a very different exhibition in the next gallery. Korean artist,
Kwang Young Chun works with traditional techniques to create contemporary art. His solo exhibition, Aggregations, showcases his use of colour and form. Each work is made up of different sizes of triangular forms. Each triangular form is cut from polystyrene then wrapped in Korean mulberry paper and tied with hand twisted paper string. His use of colour is beautiful and the three dimensional effects give lovely texture to the work.

I really enjoyed both these exhibitions and thoroughly recommend a visit to the Dovecot Studio. Bernat Klein: A Life in Colour and Kwang Young Chun: Aggregations are on until 26th September 2015 at the Dovecot Studio, Edinburgh.
